Artist Statement

  • Since I graduated in 2007, knowledge has fuelled my art. I have always been aware that to be a valid artist, I need to have a vision which I can share with the rest of society. Throughout my career, I have investigated neuroscience, Human sexuality, and even ventured into magic and human superstitions.
  • I am currently doing extensive research in AI art, technology, and it’s advances because I am very intrigued by how technology and science fiction have been feeding each other since the 50’s.
  • My research is leading me to agree with Male’s statement that ‘the separation of art and design from other disciplines is a recent one’(Male2016) but I would go further by saying that it is also only an apparent one. The creative visions of various artists in different disciplines, especially in media have been fuelling the creation of cutting-edge technology for many years.
  • As Roy Want says- ‘Media is the catalyst for innovation. Visualization is a key accelerator in this process, without it, ideas would evolve much more slowly.’  (Want 2008)
  • Wouldn’t you agree that the goal of engineering today is to make life more like Star Trek? (Bates 2011)
  • It makes me happy just to look at my iPhone and realise that this gadget is an actual realization of an artistic and scientific vision of the 60’s in Star Trek, which scientists loved so much that they worked relentlessly to make it into a reality.
  • So, my conclusion is, there is no other way, other than opening to other disciplines and integrate knowledge with our creative skills and be polymaths. Because this is the only way we as artists can be a functional part of society and help the world move forward. I aim to create artworks that can provide the seeds of inspiration for future generations .
